Accomplishments

  • Advocate against teacher layoffs across 13 schools in the District. Spoke and fought for teachers to keep their jobs and increase funding in classrooms for the better development of the students. Over 400 students gathered every Tuesday and Thursday to protest and speak in the District office. Change was provoked, teachers were able to keep their jobs and access better training to better create genuine connections and help students understand the content. Closed the AUHSD education gap a little more.
  • Advocate for graduation regalia. For 8 months I would gather students to speak against the removal of the regalia so many worked for. Sashes were a reminder that our individual accomplishments are intertwined with the collective tapestry of our graduating class – a tapestry rich in diversity, resilience, and unwavering resolve. I aimed to see student rates in attendance, involvement, academics, increase. so we had to let them see that their work is valued and worthy of something better than a pin for graduation. Months later, the district ruled that change would happen. A month later, I was standing in the first row at graduation carrying all my accomplishments around my neck, and so were the other 600 students.
