ORP is a voluntary program that supported adults with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders (COD) returning to NYC from NYS Department of Correction and Community Supervision (DOCCS) prisons after serving a minimum six-month felony sentence.
BYI was established in response to New York’s Raise the Age legislation to support court-involved youth and their co-defendants (ages 14-24) under the direction of Honorable Judge Craig S. Walker, Acting Supreme Court Justice for Youth Part and Young Adult Court, Supreme Court Kings County, Criminal Term. BYI provides comprehensive legal and clinical support, including age-appropriate interventions, structured community supervision, individualized treatment planning, advocacy, and reentry support. Additionally, BYI conducts court-ordered Pre-Plea Investigations (PPIs), offering detailed clinical assessments of adolescent offenders (AOs) by evaluating their social, economic, medical, educational, and criminal background to inform judicial sentencing decisions. PD Gabrielle Herman, LMHC has expanded BYI to now service participants in the community, detained at Crossroads Juvenile Detention, Horizon Juvenile Detention, and Rikers.
MGP under Kendra’s Law ensures timely access to mental health medications for individuals released from correctional facilities or discharged from psychiatric hospitals while awaiting Medicaid eligibility determination. This no-cost initiative facilitates enrollment within seven days of release and provides a 90-day medication coverage period through a network of over 5,000 pharmacies. Administered in partnership with OMH and Pharmacy Benefits Manager Magellan, MGP transitions eligible individuals to Medicaid or alternative funding sources for continued pharmaceutical care, promoting stability during reintegration into the community
Academy for Justice-Informed Practice is a statewide workforce training initiative funded by OMH for professionals working with individuals who have behavioral health needs and criminal justice involvement. Institute provides interactive, hands-on training and continuing education credits for professionals on a wide-range of topics, including housing and homelessness, behavioral health, case management, clinical and evidence-based practices.
