I took a position with Steve Cheney ( Cheney Brothers building)as a finish carpenter. 2002-2020. we started out working together in the field as Steve worked hard to acquire new projects. Primarily renovation restoration work. Eventually, we were able to take on large projects and my position as a carpenter turned into more of a foreman lead carpenter role. Around 2010 we realized that we needed somebody to manage the day-to-day progress on the projects.
Soon I realized that I was too busy to finish trimming a window as the questions just kept rolling in. So I fell into a role as a superintendent, project manager on site managing our in-house carpentry crew of 10 carpenters. Coordinating scheduling and managing the subcontractors and the process to turn key completion.
Eventually, we did away with our in-house crew and my responsibilities turned more project management. Sourcing subcontractors, scheduling, estimating and spending my days on site coordinating the process.
Over my 20 year career at Cheney Brothers i completed 36 Projects ranging from small commercial, Speculative homes, Jewel box trophy homes to Legacy compounds. Project timelines as short as 9 months to 2 1/2 years.
Spending my days between multiple projects managing all phases of construction. Tracking budgets and timelines. Often referred to as " The Expectation Manager"
