The vWISE Program is an 8 week summer experience for high school students to engage in molecular biology and bioinformatics research. During this extensive program, I analyzed DNA sequences of a type of duckweed called Landoltia punctata, and compared my findings with other species. I attended lectures which developed my understanding of the process of gene cloning and I gained practical skills in using bioinformatic software and tools.
The Mini-Med School program through the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) is a 7 week program consisting of sessions with medical students and professors of medicine and surgery. Through this program , I had the chance to further my knowledge of medical topics such as cardiology, neurology, infectious diseases, etc. Furthermore, I participated in extracurricular workshops in the program such as: surgical knot tying, suturing, bleeding control, radiology, and anatomy dissections.
