Responsible for collecting blood specimens for laboratory tests on inpatients and outpatients by venipuncture or capillary puncture technique.
Responsible for receiving and processing laboratory specimens in main Lab and Pathology and determining where lab tests will be performed, in house or sent to reference labs
Responsible for performing various clerical tasks to include utilizing Laboratory Information System for logging, receiving lab specimens and preparing specimens for transport
Clerical responsibilities include answering telephones and providing necessary information to inquirer, printing and attaching cumulative summaries and pathology reports to patient charts, faxing results and accessioning outpatient testing
Responsible for reporting results in timely manner in accordance with Laboratory Policies and Procedures
Performs duties which may require both technical and professional judgment
Participates in Department’s Quality Control, Quality Assurance, maintenance and safety programs
Maintains parts, reagents and supplies in areas assigned
Assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials, and ordering and stocking of materials and equipment
Required to evaluate new methods, participate in teaching, continuing education, and other organizational activities
Performs any and all related duties under supervision of Medical Technologist
