Lightsense manufactures and sells a hand-held device that detects illicit substances such as fentanyl and methamphetamine with the law enforcement community as the primary target market. The company also has ongoing development work for devices in the following areas:

  • Detecting opioids such as heroin and cocaine;
  • Detecting bacterial and viral pathogens including Covid;
  • Detecting contaminants in food;
  • Sterilizing buildings and schools;
  • Monitoring and identifying toxic chemical and greenhouse gas emissions in manufacturing plants;
  • Creating sensors for environmental monitoring and energy efficiency in buildings.

  • Integrated marketing and sales strategies with business development and operational leadership plans.
  • Department of Energy's Energy Parks Initiative (EPI): Principal Advisor to DOE's EPI program. Primary purpose of EPI was to assess potential for converting weapons sites into clean energy parks. Role included preparing strategy documents and briefing materials, making presentations, and coordinating with DOE principals, clean energy companies and entrepreneurs, capital markets, and climate change experts.
  • Radioactive Waste Cleanup Project: Advised Fortune 100 confidential client on the regulatory and economic risks of radioactive waste buried in an operating commercial landfill. Project included coordinating with DOE's Office of Legal Counsel on legal and regulatory matters.
  • Expert Witness on DOE Weapons Complex Litigation: Prepared expert report on the history of DOE's weapons complex with a particular focus on environmental risk, security, and weapons development and production. Client was Gibson Dunn, a top 50 law firm. The matter was settled with a good result for the client.
  • Renewable Energy DOE Development Project: Prepared an analysis of the potential for building solar and wind energy projects for a renewable energy developer on or proximate to DOE's weapons complex sites.
  • Environmental Compliance: Deep experience in implementing compliance programs with respect to local, state, and federal air, water, waste, cleanup, NEPA, and risk assessment requirements.
  • Chapter Director - Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2): Provided leadership and direction to E2, the leading business group in the environmental, clean energy, and climate sectors.

  • Negotiated buy-outs of historic insurance policies for its Fortune 100 clients, including Lloyds of London, relative to the clients' long-term cleanup liabilities;
  • Included clients from the oil and gas, chemical, paper, steel, and electric utility sectors such as Chevron, Amoco, Phillips Petroleum, Ashland, Dow Chemical, International Paper, and over 24 utilities;
  • Evaluated and priced over 400 cleanup sites;
  • Resulted in financial recoveries of over $3 Billion for its clients.
