The officer will empower offenders with opportunities to re-enter the community as a productive person. The officer will enforce orders of the court and Board of Pardons and Parole.

  • Ability to perform and prioritize job tasks independently and determine a course of action. Effective discretionary decision making skills and seek guidance from a supervisor or peer when questions arise. Adherence to the principles of the Department's mission and unit objectives. Ability to perform job tasks independently. Knowledge of operational standards and policies.
  • Writes reports in compliance with policy and within established time-frames. Write incident reports in compliance with AG13. Thorough knowledge of properly restraining offenders through consistency and accuracy. Professional and systematic frisk searches when necessary.
  • Demonstrates a team-based approach when working with other officers in the restraining and escorting of offenders. Quality and thorough search using a systematic approach. Handles the proper gear/equipment in a safe manner. Knowledge of common STG groups, colors and tattoos. Interacts with staff, offenders, clients and the general public with fairness and respect.
  • Completes work in a timely manner, proactively completes required training. Sound knowledge and judgement in the application of policy and procedure.

  • Maintain security and surveillance over institutional access, egress, program activities, and other activities.
  • Communicate with officers to facilitate scheduled inmate movements, such as: as cleaners, tablet workers, food, pill line. Shift change lockdown, yards open or closed.
  • Understand and be familiar with digital board for accountable sections. Maintain a log of daily activities and events.
  • Radio or echo when count is initiated and frozen. Be familiar with count initiation, count freeze and the discrepancy log, document discrepancies when necessary.
  • Control one (training): familiarized with statewide inmate counts for USCF, CUCF, CCCs. When applicable, communicate county jail inmate roster audits and verify roster/ state count. Email daily log, pass downs and discrepancies to specified chain of command.
  • Communicate needs for travel orders, necessary, using embossed paperwork, face sheets.
  • Assist after hours moves by assigning inmates to housing beds.
