I feel that this position would be another step in my career with Basin Electric. I have been the outside crew supervisor for over 10 years and worked on most mechanical equipment for 9 years before that. I feel that moving to planning would be a change and would a new challenge here.
My job requires me to plan jobs almost daily. This includes rolling up work requests, adding parts, scheduling with coal yard, shift supervisors, and W.T.P. to complete work. Also, requires communication with engineering, planning, upper supervision, then assign the work to employees and follow up on it's completion and help if additional parts or services are needed. All of this with safety being priority.
Worked as mechanic/welder for about 8 years. Was tasked to maintain, replace, and repair power plant equipment including pumps, gearboxs, conveyor equipment, piping above and bleow ground, cooling towers, dumper..ect.
Almost 4 years ago was promoted to assistant maintenance supervisor and was in charge of the outside crew which involved finding and distributing work, checking on jobs and making sure they are done efficiently and safely and resolving both employee and job problems.
Using computer to help plan, schedule and find parts is also part of the job and being able to communicate with others.
Started and laborer and worked my way into operations which was tasked with maintaining/checking and operating plant equipment for a couple years. This also including operating loaders, skidsters, and forklifts. Then was promoted to oiler and was tasked with checking/changing/sampling oil and greasing all equipment. Was then promoted to baghouse repairman tasked with changing bags, diaphrams and checking all baghouse equipment. Finally was promoted to mechanic/welder tasked with repairing, replacing and maintaining all plant equipment. Was also trained to operate 35 ton grove crane.
