I provide patient care to pediatric patients ranging from birth to 18 years of age in the Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). My responsibilities include welcoming patients and their parents or caregivers, assisting patients with changing into appropriate surgical attire, and obtaining and documenting preoperative vital signs. Following surgery, I assist patients with their immediate postoperative needs by providing snacks and beverages as appropriate and supporting nurses with patient care and other unit responsibilities.

When patients are medically ready for discharge or transfer, I assist with safely transporting them to their assigned inpatient unit or accompanying discharged patients to their vehicle. I also transport patients from inpatient units to the Pediatric PACU as needed. When I am not providing direct patient care, I maintain the unit by restocking supplies and ensuring patient-care areas are adequately prepared.

In addition to my responsibilities in the Pediatric PACU, I float to Same Day Surgery, where I assist with the care of adult surgical patients. My responsibilities include obtaining and documenting vital signs, assisting patients with changing and dressing as needed, performing EKGs, preparing and shaving surgical sites, and assisting with other preoperative procedures. I have experience working with patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures, including orthopedic, urological, neurological, obstetric, cardiac, and other surgical cases. This role has provided me with experience caring for patients across a wide range of ages, conditions, and surgical specialties while working collaboratively with nurses and other members of the healthcare team.
