I mainly work in the kitchen, its really important to ensure that the residents get the proper diet,or if they have any food allergies to make note of it for when we serve. As a dietary aide I am not allowed to help the residents but when I go out on the floor I do speak to residents. We are however required to do the "healthcare academy", so I do learn stuff about my position but also about a CNA's position which would be equivalent to a health care assistant. As an aide I make sure that the fridges are stocked with stuff the residents may want or that the med managers would need like pudding and what not. I do also want to put out there that I have a bit of experience with cooking in the nursing home.
Another thing I want to add on is that do have experience with elderly with dementia. Although I do not work side by side with them in my position,I do converse with them. Sometimes try to calm them down when they are confused as they may forget where they are.
I worked here for a year. As a barista and sometimes a cook. This was a very fast paced job. Sometimes I worked in the window taking orders or at the counter.
This was my first job I started working here at 16 since it was the only job I could get at my age. It is a seasonal job so it was more of a short term summer job.
I cleaned bathrooms and washed laundry. I cleaned campers and sometimes I helped work activates when it was short staffed. The job was very busy as we had a lot of turnovers,so learning to work as a team and be able to communicate was very important.
