In my tenure as a physician being an educator and mentor have been a core part of how I practice medicine. Although a key attribute of my professional qualifications this also extends beyond a professional capacity into community outreach and personal interactions. I enjoy and excel (or am skilled ) at both formal education such as presentation or topic-specific lectures as well as the informal education I provide as part of my routine practice. Informally, Patient education is second nature to me, and I have found that providing this to my patients leads to a significant increase in compliance, patient satisfaction, and better outcomes. Educating those I work with is a routine and rewarding aspect of my work. This may include colleagues, residents, mid-levels, nurses, students, and ancillary staff. Formally, I have lectured or given presentations on a variety of topics to diverse audiences necessitating a wide range of scope and depth of material presented. Included below is a list of examples of groups that I have had the honor of presenting to:
Residents
Dental Society
International Health Care Providers
Nurses
Community events
Church groups
Middle & High school students
High School Co-op courses:
Wilderness Survival
Anatomy and Physiology

It has been my privilege to participate in numerous humanitarian efforts, the majority of which have been abroad in third-world countries. Projects have included the construction of schools, clinics, churches, clean water systems, and both simultaneous or stand-alone medical and dental clinics providing care and education to these underserved populations. In addition to being a team member, examples of the various capacities I have served in specifically as a physician include the following. Medical management/oversight and emergency preparedness planning for humanitarian teams comprised of members with a wide variety of medical demographics. Medical care of hundreds of patients who have minimal to no access to health care, often encountering the unique medical conditions associated with that particular geographic region and climate all with a limited number of diagnostic tools, medical supplies, and medications available. Facilitator and mentor for high school students in a mission work experience as a medical team member. Collaboration with non-profit organizations to facilitate medical care, health education, and infrastructure internationally. Project lead in the planning, implementation, and execution of multiple short-term international medical clinics.
