Our county was far behind in having an ANCHOR store for the county for everyday consumer goods. Residents complained that after 5pm most businesses closed that sold everyday items that were needed to fix or complete repairs or projects and that they would have to drive to next counties to acquire. Local officials, IDA and chamber members got together and sent a proposal to Wal-MART which was accepted and built very quickly, which in turn let other businesses take interest in a growing county with a ready and reliable workforce; thus expanded growth in our county.
