This job involves running food to customers’ tables, preparing plates for tables, and taking orders. Allergens are a major concern in the restaurant industry, and so another important part of this job is to identify, know, and educate customers and occasionally staff on the contents of each menu item.
Like with any customer service based work, I deal with hungry and short-tempered individuals on a regular basis.
I’m in charge of the maintenance crew. This involves dealing with incidentals such as equipment break downs, irate customers and neighbors, and material acquisitions. The normal day-to-day involves pulling weeds, mulching flower beds, and cutting grass. I have learned many lessons about how to handle these problems in a timely and efficient manner, often in Spanish.
I took part in a program known as Saint Thomas Scholars, wherein I received a CPR certification, and completed the CCMA exam with one of the highest scores in the program.
