Summary

My current position being a nurse extern in the ED has taught me many things. I learned more about ED essential skills like IVs, EKGs, blood cultures/draws, and much more. I believe the experience I've had in the ED will help me become an excellent ED nurse.

I was a CNA a Banner. Some of my responsibilities include getting blood sugars, EKGs, and helping with the patient's ADL's. One achievement I've accomplished in this position was further increasing my knowledge of nursing, which I am extremely grateful for learning

  • I performed EKGs on patients in the ED. For one of my patient's I performed an EKG, and it was found that they had a third-degree heart block.
  • I performed multiple medication administrations on my patients with the nurse present of course. I''ve given IV pushes, blood pressure medications, and much more. While performing medication administration, I made sure safety was my number one concern
  • I've also inserted some IV's in the ED as well. This is a skill I am still trying to improve on. On one of my work days in the ED I went to the triage area and got 5-6 successful IV's starts
  • These skills listed above will be used daily as an ED nurse, which will help in the ED
