Child Protective Services (CPS)

• Westchester County CPS, part of the Department of Social Services, investigates allegations of child abuse and neglect providing services for children and families to ensure their safety and well-being
• Conduct thorough investigations to determine the validity of reports and the level of risk to children
• Evaluate family dynamics, strengths, and needs to identify factors contributing to or mitigating risk
• Collaborate with families and other service providers to create plans that address safety concerns and promote positive outcomes
• Represent the best interest of children in court and other legal proceedings
• Assist families in accessing necessary services such as housing, food, medical care, and mental health support
• Document all case information in a timely and accurate manner

The Office of Temporary Housing Assistance (OTHA)

This unit is designed to lead the homeless population toward permanent housing and independence by providing direct case management services to the hard to serve population. The program is designed to oversee services to the homeless provided by the not-for-profit agencies within Westchester County.

• Conducted home visits to assess living conditions and ensure safe environments for children and families involved in cases.
• Assessed needs of each client and recommended appropriate services and resources.

• Provide Social Case Work services for at risk persons with housing, medical, and other social needs
• Make necessary referrals to out sourced services, as well as offering direct advocacy for individual's and families seeking services with the goal to better their quality of life in legal matters, housing, medical, or all other needed social services

• Collaborating with families, Clinicians, Social Workers, Case Workers, the Education Department and community resources to provide a nurturing and therapeutic working approach for At Risk adjudicated and un-adjudicated youth, teaching youth acceptable social, coping, and interpersonal skills and connecting them with community resources to stabilize aftercare success
