James Stevens

A dedicated and reliable educator with five years of full-time classroom teaching experience is transitioning to substitute teaching for the 2025–2026 school year to allow for greater scheduling flexibility due to family medical needs. Committed to maintaining high educational standards and student engagement, while continuing to support schools and classrooms in a meaningful, adaptable capacity.

• UH Geography Department 2019 Bowers Undergraduate award; GPA 3.83
• Millersville University, PA - I began a BS in Biology/Secondary Education '87-'91
• PSIA/USSA certifications for teaching and coaching alpine skiing. Worked 10 years as a PSIA-NW Divisional Clinic Leader.

Originally from Hershey, PA, I began my academic journey studying Biology and Secondary Education before pursuing a 20+ year career in the ski industry. As a Head Coach and Program Director at Mt. Hood Meadows Race Team, I coached internationally across the Pacific Northwest, Canada and New Zealand. During off-seasons, I embraced diverse, hands-on roles such as; working as a deckhand on  salmon tenders in Alaska,  working as a Nature tour guide in a WA State Park,  working as a bicycle guide, and managing outdoor retail stores. These real-world experiences ultimately fueled my return to university and prepared me to inspire students in the classroom.

I am an outdoor enthusiast.  I love to ski, surf and ride my bicycle as much as possible.  Anything to do in the water or mountains has my interest.  I also love sports in general, both in participation and viewing.  I am a super-fan of the WSL, Premier League, MLB, and UCI Cycling.  

My interests above have connected me with photography over the years.  It has become a serious hobby for me these days. I love trying to get shots of the Hawaiian scenery at sunrise and sunset.  I love taking photographs of surfing competitions and big swells.  And I really love Astrophotography. 

I am always reading about various math and science topics and I enjoy playing chess.
