In addition to work history, I believe my volunteer work over the past 25 years will serve either position greatly. I have been a member of the boards of directors of several local non-profits, working mainly in a fund raising capacity for those organizations. Those boards include Craven County Arts Council, New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce, being named Ambassador of the Year and Board Member of the Year. My most recent board membership was with The Craven County Community College Foundation Board. In my last year there I served as Chairman of the board's major fundraising event, The Annual Community Fabrics Awards Luncheon. I also co-chaired a second smaller event, a chocolate and wine tasting evening. The largest event I have organized was the opening of the New Bern 300th Anniversary year, New Year;s Eve 2009. Myself and one other woman planned and held a very successful "First Night New Bern" providing a fun filled afternoon for over 1,000 children and evening of entertainment venues for an estimated 10,000 attendees. In order to be inclusive, the venues included many free family-oriented opportunities. This is not to say I would like to be in charge of anything. The part-time, assistant position is exactly what I am looking for. I have loved and worked with animals my whole life. I volunteered for a summer at the local no-kill shelter when it was in a very limited facility, cleaning, feeding, and medicating the cats. As an aside, I would love to tell you about the family with whom we say I share dog ownership. I look forward to hearing from you.
