Buffalo Apprenticeship Coordinator

  • Support Tanka Fund producers; support includes assisting them in program funding opportunities.
  • Assisted the producers with writing business, grazing, and conservation plans.
  • We were recently awarded a Native American Agriculture Fund Grant, which I will supervise. This grant will allow Tanka Fund to purchase livestock equipment for the producers to utilize as needed.
  • The Climate Smart Grant from South Dakota State University is a 4-year grant that will assist buffalo producers in marketing their animals as 'Native Raised-Grass Feed Buffalo'.
  • Work closely with The Nature Conservancy to relocate surplus buffalo to the Tanka Fund Producers.
  • Knowledgeable with BIA regulations, requirements, and other granting agency regulations.
  • Promote and represent the organization at collective events, meetings, trainings, and other venues that provide opportunities to share the mission of the organization.

  • Worked as the agriculture coordinator/safety of dams coordinator, which included grants, scope of work, and writing quarterly and yearly reports for the program.
  • Worked closely with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and developed the Agriculture Resource Management Plan for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, Belcourt, ND. This plan was adopted by resolution in August 2012.
  • Member of the land management team that developed the Land Use Plan.
  • I managed the Buffalo program for the TMBCI for years, including writing grants to fund the program and managing the budget and reports.
  • Developed a grazing plan for the buffalo herd.
  • Decided which animals were culled in the herd.
  • Developed a herd health management plan.
  • Provide training to area Native American ranchers/farmers, including available FSA, NRCS, and USDA programs.
  • Assisted native American ranchers/farmers with FSA and NRCS applications.
  • Assisted Native American ranchers/farmers in developing business plans and managing land.
