  • Run quality control on water system and glucose monitor daily and test each dialysis machine before every treatment.
  • Greet patients and family members.
  • Obtain and record pre- and post- vital signs and weights.
  • Assist patients from wheelchairs into chairs and back if needed.
  • Observe patients for shortness of breath, edema and lung sounds pre- and post-treatment.
  • Setup and tear down Cobe Sentry 2 Rx, Fresenius D, E and F machines.
  • Cleanse access sites if needed and disinfect sites prior to needle insertion.
  • Insert venous and arterial fistula needles into grafts and one fistula.
  • Monitor patients and machines during dialysis treatments.
  • Record data, observations, interventions and outcomes.
  • Discontinue dialysis treatments per unit policies.
  • Hold needle sites until hemostasis achieved.
  • Apply pressure dressings to needle sites.
  • Instruct patients how long to leave pressure dressings in place.
  • Assist wheelchair patients out to vehicle and into vehicle if needed.
  • Constantly verify that all machines in unit are set to correct blood pump and dialysate speeds, that dialysate flow is turned on, correct dialysate solution is being used, sodium variation is on if ordered and set correctly, that all needles are in place and flowing well, etc.
  • Initiate and maintain care plans for primary patients.
  • Rewrite maintenance orders for primary patients.
