I am an EVS operator(associate producer) with over 25 years of experience in the field of sports production, mainly televising sporting events. These include MLB, NBA, NFL, NCAA football and basketball, MLS, PGA Tour and many others. I would work on location at the site where the event was held sitting in the TV truck with other members of the production team. Most of my work was with the Houston Astros and the Houston Rockets logging over 2,000 games between the two. I was lucky enough to travel and stay with the mentioned teams on their charter plane and the hotel where they stayed for 20 years. It was a good ride till the pandemic hit.
An EVS Operator which includes managing a device that will perform replays, edit capabilities and other functions to broadcast a sporting event.
In 2001 I started my job as an EVS operator working for the Houston Astros broadcast team as a contractor. From the start I was only working road games which meant I would fly with the team on the chartered plane. My duties were to successfully perform a piece of machinery called the EVS. It's basically a mini super computer that can invoke many things such as record cameras, program, graphics and more. It has a T-bar lever to slow replays at any speed. It can build playlists to show hilights from a certain player, team or anything else the production team decides on. It stores elements such as interstitials, scenics of the city your in, billboard backrounds, flashbacks from games in the past that might be pertinent to the moment to name a few. In summary, the EVS machine is highly functional that performs numerous variables for any specific sporting event. After the baseball season I would then focus on the Houston Rockets broadcast working same position as I did for the Astros. I left the regional scene in 2020 and moved nationally to NBC Sports working professional golf and other sports the network would air including the English Premiere League, NFL and Rugby.
My dad played on the PGA tour from 1965-1979 winning four times. I have been playing my whole life, played only one year in HS tried to walk on in college and missed the cut by 3 strokes. My best round is a 66 on a par 71 course. My first round in the 60's was in college during intramurals where i shot a 69. In my prime I was a 1 handicap.
