Duties include starting/stopping movement of trains.
Moving trains from point A to point B following instructions and safety rules.
Operating locomotives requires the ability to pay attention to several things at once i.e. controlling speed and movement of the train, using levers, knobs, and buttons.
Planning ahead.
Conductor/Brakeman duties include switching, building trains, and checking equipment to make sure its safe to use. Make judgment calls, and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
The job uses PPE and is very safety oriented.
