Senior Laboratory Assistant

PATHOLOGY

  • Assisted the pathologist by retrieving medical records, slides, and any scans not already in EPIC.
  • Responsible for keeping the front office organized.
  • Answering and redirecting all incoming call.
  • Entering pathology results reports.
  • Packaged all specimens appropriately for shipping.
  • Responsible for making sure all patients are billed properly.
  • Responsible for making sure Providence was billed correctly.

MICROBIOLOGY

COVID

  • Registering all incoming COVID specimens.
  • Processing all COVID specimens
  • Provided customer service to all off site by faxing results when needed.
  • Responsible for training on COVID ordering and processing.
  • Responsible for making all COVID related kits.

VITEC

  • Managed time efficiently in order to complete all tasks within deadlines.
  • Assisted in processing sample and putting them on the Vitec.
  • Responsible for weekly QC and monthly maintenance on the Vitec.

SETUPS

  • Received and corrected orders for all specimens.
  • Identified each specimen source and made sure it was plated and or put in the correct media.
  • Performed POC test like COVID, Influenza, RPP.
  • Assisted in making slides for the techs to read.
  • Made sure all areas were stocked for the next shift.

PHLEBOTOMY

LEAD LABORATORY ASSISTANT

  • Responsible for the daily work flow
  • Managed any staffing issues.
  • Assisted in AM blood draws
  • Received all specimens coming into the lab.
  • Made sure all specimens were given to the appropriate department.
  • Processed specimens for the techs to run on the analyzers.
  • Made sure Sendout specimens were drawn in correct tubes. Processed correctly and stored in the correct temperature.
  • Ordered all samples that came from off site.
  • Provided nursing staff with the correct collection information. Whether it be what and how much blood to draw, or what swab/ container is needed for collection.
  • Helped doctor with ordering the correct test to better treat their patients.
