Summary

I am a highly driven individual who is passionate about any task or position that I am trusted with. I have always been able to connect with people quickly after meeting them. Making a difference in the lives of children has always been my proudest accomplishment.

After graduating from college, I earned my dream job working as a kindergarten teacher in South Florida. I worked at a wonderful school for 4 years, but after having my first child, I focused my attention on finding work that allowed me to be with my children as much as possible. I loved being a stay-at-home/work-from-home mom, but I have always felt my heart being pulled back to teaching. Now that my kids are all old enough to be in school themselves, I am looking forward to being able to pursue my career outside of our home again and dedicating myself to teaching.

Student Teacher

Milwaukee Public School District
Milwaukee, WI
08.2005 - 06.2006
  • Worked with and learned from the teachers in the classroom.
  • Had the opportunity to work in a very special environment where a kindergarten teacher, ESE teacher, and two aides worked together in a classroom with 12 neurotypical children and 9 children with exceptional needs.
  • I learned the importance of differentiated instruction, but also how to approach personal relationships with the students and their families differently based on their backgrounds and home lives.
  • The teachers had me shadow them for several weeks, but then allowed me to create and implement my own lessons for the final few weeks of my time there. The feedback they provided after observing and participating in my lessons was an invaluable gift to receive as I finished working towards my degree in education.
  • Worked with administration, guidance counselors, and family & child services on several occasions to be sure the children were safe both in school and when they left.

Lead Teacher

Milestones, Programs For Children
Milwaukee, WI
01.2005 - 06.2006
  • Created scheduled activities for school-aged children in a before and after school program. (Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten is only half-day in Milwaukee, so we cared for children all day.)
  • Created an environment that was welcoming and warm, as this was many children's first experience with school.
  • Worked with other lead teachers to create lesson plans and then implemented them with the help of our assistant teachers in the classrooms.
  • I worked with my own group of kids in the morning and during the school day, but then acted as a substitute in the after school program, so it was important that I was able to adapt to many different personalities throughout the day, both with the kids and the other teachers I worked with.
  • In the summer, most of our time was spent outside. I altered our schedules to focus on outdoor activities and supervised field trips 2-3 days per week.
