Maintain end-to-end administration for priority functions and services in IBM Power Virtual Server environment that supports SAP

• Played major role in IBM Power E880 to E1080 re-platforming initiative
• Created frame diagrams in VISIO for each of 3x Central Electronics Complexes (CECs) and for both datacenters
• Labeled each of the CECs (nodes and VIOS) and involved with SAN & LAN fiber cabling
• Built portion of 24x Virtual I/O Servers (VIOS), using IBM Provisioning Toolkit (IPTK)
• Managed build of (and migrations to) 75x SLES15 “swing” LPARs; this was a significant undertaking that involved: 14x Sandbox, 16x Development, 17x Q/A, 28x Production (including D/R)
• Worked with IBM Lab Services to use Capacity Planning Tool (CPT) in order to “right-size” SLES15 LPAR CPU and memory resources
• Authored SLES15 L1 migration instructions.docx migration document and held several Knowledge Transfer (KT) sessions to train team on server assignments and build procedures
• Authored postbuild.ksh script to automate and streamline server customization steps & lpar_postbuild_evidence.sh script to facilitate gathering of post build evidence for server build RFC
• Actively involved with the SEAS to vNIC migrations & AIX 7.3 nimadm upgrades
• All 8xE880 CECs were retired ahead of schedule (by end of 3Q2023), resulting in 50% (i.e. $450k+) savings from early termination of SW and HW maintenance contracts and $60k+ in SUSE subscription/license fees. Frame retirements/decommissions from datacenters were completed in 4Q2023
• Responsible for annual AIX 7.1 & PowerHA SystemMirror Technology Level/Service Pack patch bundle engineering
• Download latest TL/SP from IBM and inventory IBM’s FLRT (Fix Level Recommendation Tool) sites for hiper and security APAR information to generate customized patch bundle
• Wrote custom aix_patch.sh script that checks current OS level before installing TL/SP patches
• Wrote a custom post_patch.sh script that applies any fixes that were discovered on FLRT hiper & security APAR information sites, as well as upgrades any infrastructure client applications (e.g. NetWorker, Centrify, AutoSys) as well as updating several key software (e.g. Java8_64, OpenSSL, OpenSSH, lsof)
• Authored patching-playbook.sh script that performs following functions: take mksysb system backup of root disk, copies over patch bundle files, checks for any running processes before proceeding, initiates aix_patch.sh script, initiates post_patch.sh script, mails copy of test evidence that is to be uploaded to RFC
• Submit all necessary qualification/Continuous Release Management (CRM) documents
• Upon completion of thorough testing of patching-playbook.sh script, golden image of that specific OS level is created and staged on 2x NIM servers (one at each datacenter) so that future AIX lpar builds will have latest version of OS
• Manage SAP data refresh efforts
• A data refresh is a highly orchestrated exercise where a synchronized snapshot (i.e. point-in-time copy of a database) is taken and written to replicated devices, which are then presented to a different server and renamed for that environment. For example, production ECC is known as P01. During a Q02 refresh, a snapshot of P01 would be taken, and those devices would be presented to the Q02 server, where scripts would be executed to rename filesystems from P01 to Q02. Furthermore, once the filesystems are mounted, additional scripts are executed to change the ownership of files and directories from anything bearing p01 (e.g. p01adm and orap01) to the Q02 counterparts (e.g. q02adm and oraq02).
• Architected novel way of initiating synchronized database snapshots that included adding timer to make synchronized execution easier and faster
• Changed the way scripts were executed so that only the snapshot script requires execution from SOURCE server; all remaining scripts can be executed from TARGET server
• Scripted connectivity to solutions enabler (SE) servers for snapshot/replication steps for seamless execution and eliminating the need to logon to SE servers to execute those commands
• Supported migration of SAP BW to HANA 2.0, which resulted in zero unplanned SAP-related manufacturing outages: Conducted pre-go-live D/R test and multiple mock refreshes in anticipation of migration; fine-tuned CPU/memory LPAR settings
• Authored “self-service snapshot” script, where SAP BASIS admins could execute ss-snapshot.sh script to take database (both Oracle and HANA) snapshot: Included time constraint mechanism for 10x different time frames (some of which are conditional per SID or OS type) so as to prevent ss-snapshot.sh from interfering with regularly scheduled snaps, sends email with status as well as userID of person executing script
• Maintained E880 Hardware Microcode Upgrades: Downloaded and staged latest catalog.mic file and issued invscout against 7x VIOS in DRM, Downloaded hardware microcode for 7x different devices (NIC, FC, SISSAS, SES, 3x different pdisk types), Staged h/w microcode by installing them to amrdrmaj4:/etc/microcode
• Played a major role in the IBM Power P795 to E880 re-platforming initiative: Created frame diagrams in VISIO for each of 4x CECs and for both datacenters, Labeled each CEC (nodes and VIOS) and involved with SAN & LAN fiber cabling, Built a portion of 32x VIOS, using IPTK

• Provided Unix consulting and System Administration for over 90 Sun Solaris servers that span Development to Implementations (Post-Development) to Production lifecycles, implementing cost-saving measures and maximizing talents of fellow sys-admins: Offer technical leadership in training staff on processes and procedures, both technical and administrative; Introduced server/application container checklists to significantly reduce defects on delivery; Authored and revised several internal technical documents (Solaris 10 build instructions, Solaris 10 local zone creation, ZFS setup, WebSphere MQ upgrades, et cetera); Timely management of team Magic Ticketing queue
• Provided third-level support for Sun Solaris servers as well as following applications: Oracle 9i / 10g / 11i, Oracle (BEA) WebLogic and Tuxedo, IBM WebSphere MQ, Crystal BO XI, BMC Patrol and Control-M, CA Wily, Covalent Apache, Informatica, EMC Documentum
• Migrated Production Apache server into Cisco CSM configuration: Built Solaris 10 server per Build Instruction specs; Installed and configured Covalent Apache software; Verified and revised existing CSM entries; Configured LDAP SiteMinder plug-in; Network interfaces identified and setup; Executed verification and testing with Production Management Team; Ready for Implementation
• Developed and maintained successful relationships with key groups, such as IST for server racking and hardware provisioning, ITC Storage Management for SAN storage forecasting, Environment Delivery for application installation and container delivery, Production Services for server monitoring, Integration Testing for Development work, Production Management for support of Production and Post-Development Environments
• Closely involved in planning and execution of new technology through various Proof of Concept efforts: Oracle-BEA AquaLogic Service Bus / WebSphere MQ clustering / Oracle RAC: Provisioned local and global zones; Capacity planning of CPU, memory, SAN storage, etc.; Worked with vendor to setup test-cases

• Led training efforts of off-shore TI India personnel: Identified key areas where overseas personnel could provide support; Provided remote training / knowledge transfers and documentation to bring staff up-to-speed
• Project Lead for WebSphere MQ upgrade to version 6.0.2: Drafted initial project plan and scripted work instructions, including fully tested back-out procedures; Participated in as well as trained rest of group in upgrade activity; Monitored and reported upgrade progress up through successful project completion
• Twice served as Project lead for Disaster Recovery exercise where 12 production Solaris servers are recovered / restored at remote DR facility in Sterling Forest, NY. Responsibilities and accomplishments included: Optimization of flash-archives using inclusion/exclusion lists; Legato Tape Infrastructure performance tuning for faster recovery from tape backup at DR site; Managed flash-archive creation and transfers; Implemented improvements leading to increased DR test success rates by saving significant server recovery time
• Led Migration of Tuxedo server to local zone running on Solaris 10: researched Solaris 9 branded local zone to support Solaris 9 specific Tuxedo-based application; Identified and migrated 60GB worth of key application data from old server to new local zone; Created new MQ objects (Queue Manager, channels, queues); Collaborated with Integration Testing group in migrating data and performed post-migration activity validation

• Provided Unix Technical Support and System Administration for over 300 Unix / Linux servers located globally within one of world's largest pharmaceutical companies
• Appointed project lead for system-wide OS Patching Project in 2006, impacting 300+ servers (HP-UX, Solaris, AIX, Linux): investigated patching strategies and methodologies, worked closely with vendors for creation of custom patch bundles, liaised with application owners (Oracle, SAP, SAN, TSM, WebLogic, MQ) to facilitate application upgrades, scripted and maintained detailed documentation, coordinated server assignments with other sys-admins, managed progress of systems patched from Development to Q/A to Production
• Managed and implemented migration of AutoSys 3.x client-server environment to AutoSys 4.5, within complex and heterogeneous server environment (300+ HP-UX, Solaris, AIX, Linux servers impacted): developed detailed Project Plan, deadlines, worked closely with Production Support group to preplan and troubleshoot migration of nearly 100,000 scheduled jobs, engineered solution for legacy clients to connect to new server environment, architected AutoSys SAP Adapter 3.2 SP1 upgrade in conjunction with AutoSys upgrade saving $500k in licensing costs
• Successfully upgraded and patched twenty+ DNS servers on Solaris 8 to Solaris 9, located globally in Japan, Australia, Philippines, Singapore, and Canada via remote console access
• Implemented self-initiated project of documenting differences and new features for HP-UX 11.23 Itanium and Solaris 10 installs and configuration, leading to greater Unix group efficiency and technical understanding of these new platforms when they first emerged
• Completed remote build / configuration of new Solaris 9 servers for SecurID in Japan and Australia
• Initiated wide-scale LVM cleanup of SAP filesystems on HP-UX systems for more efficient use of SAN disk space and enhanced application performance
