John Beltran

• Conduct surveillance to document prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder among children in New Jersey. Administer diagnostic questionnaires to screen for Autism risk in children. Referred parents to medical professionals for formal Autism diagnoses and early intervention.

• Facilitated weekly lab sessions for 16 students, supporting students in the mastering of practical skills and the grasping of Organic Chemistry principles. Fostered an engaging learning environment to promote teamwork and knowledge retention.

• Worked with Spanish-speaking patients, helping them navigate the social determinants of health. Helped patients apply for SNAP, medical insurance, legal documents, and utility assistance. Served as a Spanish speaking liaison between patients and providers. Certified interpreter through Johns Hopkins Hospital

● Performed over 700 hours of molecular and cellular biology related research under Dr. Juliana Romano of the Coppens Lab. Studied the invasion mechanisms of Toxoplasma gondii, the causative agent of toxoplasmosis.

• Guided incoming freshmen through first year of college, addressing questions and concerns.
  Conducted regular check-ins to monitor academic progress and emotional well-being. Served as a member on the First-Year Mentor Advisory Committee to enhance student support.
