The Department of Public Safety is one of the few fully integrated police and fire departments in America. Public Safety Officers are cross-trained as police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs), allowing the department to provide police, fire, and emergency medical services seamlessly to the community

• Patrols assigned area and preserves law and order through prevention of crime and enforcement of laws.
• Responds to calls for service involving traffic accidents, robberies, disturbances, misdemeanors and felonies and taking appropriate action including making arrests.
• Investigates crimes against property and persons which include crime scene investigation, collection and preservation of evidence, identification and interrogation of suspects, and the pursuit and apprehension of suspects.
• Delivered expert courtroom testimony in support of numerous criminal cases
• Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; performs fire suppression duties including laying and connecting hoses; holds and directs variety of suppression material streams; raises and climbs aerial ladders; makes forcible entry into buildings; drives apparatus; removes people from danger and provides emergency aid and assistance, initiating medical treatment.
• Participates in fire inspection and prevention activities including inspection of businesses, ensuring compliance with the Fire Code.
