- Monitor tunnels for toxic and explosive gases such as carbon monoxide, methane, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen dioxide, as well as volatile organic compounds. Continuous monitoring of oxygen levels and linear feet per minute. Filing out hot work permits and confined space permits. Recognizing and correcting any hazards. Orientate new employees, as well as train them in what areas fit their scope of work, and train employees on the use of self-rescuers (M20, W65, EB6.5). Currently on the mine rescue team, and work with the fire department's mine rescue team on drills 2 to 3 times a year. Responsible for being part of a team of safety professionals dedicated to creating and leading a safety culture that ensures everyone goes home safely. Work hand in hand with supervision and upper management to ensure contract compliance with all rules, regulations, and policies. Conduct daily safety toolbox talks. Conduct Accident/investigation as well as corrective actions. Work with supervision on formulating Job Hazard Analysis, and Pre-Task safety plans. Work with Metro staff on document requests and weekly job site inspections. I am proficient in computer skills, word, excel, and PowerPoint. Work with the Cal-OSHA tunneling and mining division to ensure compliance is being held up on our end. Oversee Gas testers, do weekly ventilation assessments, and provide all employees with personal protective equipment.
