  • My duties were to provide supervision, care and correctional treatment of inmates
  • Concerned with maintenance of institution security contributing to the health and welfare of the inmates and the promotion of good public relations
  • Enforces rules and regulations governing facility security, inmate accountability and inmate conduct to ensure judicial sanctions are carried out and inmates remain in custody
  • I also maintain the sanitation and cleaning of the housing units
  • From time to time, it may be authorized to carry firearms and to use physical force, including deadly force, to maintain control of inmates
  • During institution emergencies or other periods of heavy workload or limited staff, I work long and irregular hours, unusual shifts, Sundays, holidays and unexpected overtime
  • Information as to operations and procedures is provided by post orders, BOP program statements, local supplements, custodial manual, internal correspondence and staff meetings
  • In addition, I was flexible and have a broad knowledge base to use my own initiative in the resolution of problem situations
  • As a government employee for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, I maintain the safety and security of the institution I escorted and transfer federal inmates to doctors' appointments and to other institutions, to include the extradition of high security individuals
  • I also worked in the 'SHU' Special Housing Unit, where inmates were house due to multiple infractions, violating institutional policies, fights, assault on staff
  • In addition, when assigned to units, I also assigned cells to new inmates, jobs
  • Attempt to defuse inmate issues before they escalate from fights to grievances
  • I conducted daily rounds of the housing units and observed and talked with inmates to make sure the unit was operating in a safe and secure manner
  • I was also tasked to train and supervise junior staff and give feedback to the shift supervisor
  • I was also a member of the ERT, Emergency Response Team
  • Which consisted of managing and monitoring disrupted groups, security threat groups, such as of prison gangs such as the Mexican Mafia, Arian Disciples, Black guerilla family, to include terrorist groups
  • Conducted investigation and interviews of inmates when assaults or murders were done within the prison system
  • I also conducted crime scenes investigations, which consisted of securing the crime scene, inventory of property and taking pictures of both the crime scene and the autopsy
  • The proper documents were generated and directed to the proper government officials to the warden and Washington DC
  • I was also asked to translate to Spanish speaking inmates that had just arrived at the institution, to include investigations of assault on inmates or staff, disciplinary sanctions conducted and I also translated for the physic ology and the chapel department for inmates that were Spanish speaking language was all they understood
  • Also passed and maintained my yearly certification on my armed escort certification during my 22 years with the agency.
  • I also worked in the food service department, which consisted of me inspecting tractor trailers that contain food to federal institution food service and rejecting trucks if discrepancies were found on the food
  • I supervise the day-to-day operations and performance of the inmates and provide the highest level of daily meals to the inmate population
  • Ensures proper store signage is always maintained, as well as the quality and freshness, which included temperature control on items such as meat, poultry, to include the rotation of new food coming in
  • Primary responsibility is to provide supervision and instruction to 25-30 inmate workers who are assigned the duties of cooks, butchers, bakers, dining and dish workers, vegetable preparation workers, and pots and pans washers, sanitation
  • Provided continual training to the inmate workers to update their knowledge in all phases of production, presentation, and sanitation of food items
  • Oversees the receiving, storing, and issue of all food and non-food items
  • Establishes and communicates job responsibilities and performance expectations to the inmates to ensure mutual understanding and desired results I conducted monthly performance evaluations, recommending inmates for advancement and termination as appropriate
  • I also did inmate payroll and managed to stay within budget
  • I provided a safe environment for inmates and staff, by following Osha rules and rectifying hazards material and recycling cans and cardboard items, ensuring proper disposal was achieved, and maintaining store equipment in proper working order
  • Oversees product merchandising and maintains proper stock levels through appropriate product ordering by conducting institution inventory by the Federal Bureau of prisons food service guideline
