Medical Intensive Care Unit

• Utilize the Nursing Process of assessment, diagnosis, outcome/planning, implementation and evaluation to deliver holistic, patient-care to adult in critical conditions.
• Common patient diagnoses include acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, hypovolemic/septic/cardiogenic shock, hypertension crisis, pneumonia requiring intubation and sedation, End Stage Renal Disease, gastrointestinal bleed, and drug/alcohol overdose.
• Accurately documentation of all elements of nursing assessment, treatments, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
• Foster interdisciplinary communication with other members of the health care team to optimize patients' outcome.
• Floating experience in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Medical Step-down Unit.

• Welcome patients and check for proper identification bracelets
• Perform lab draws, blood glucose check, EKG, collection of specimens as directed, and appropriately escalate as necessary.
• Provide hygiene and comfort care to patients including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, incontinence care, and bed-making
• Obtain and document daily patient weights
• Observe and document patient's intake and output
• Provide a safe environment by attending to call lights promptly

• Taught health education classes for community workers and members of the public and college and High School students.
• Developed a comprehensive HIV/AIDS curriculum to educate current and future Lehman College students.
