• Works 1:1 with preceptor to provide quality nursing care to patients in this 12 bed unit.
• Performs total care for assigned patients (including but not limited to: Q1H vital signs or more frequent vital signs, blood sugar monitoring, intake & output, turns, dressing changes, Q1H rounding and safety restraints (if applicable), bathing, peri care/foley care, oral care/Q2H oral care for patients who are intubated).
• Performs all shift assessments, reassessments, and IV/AV fistula/central line/arterial line assessments under the primary RN.
• Administers patient medications with supervision of primary RN.
• Developed skills in placing IV lines, placing NG or OG tubes, helping with extubation, extensive dressing changes, zeroing and calibrating arterial lines, utilizing in line suctioning for patients with an ETT in place, utilizing ultrasound for placing IV lines and emotional intelligence with patient's family/friends.
• Reports appropriately to rounding doctors, residents, and nurse practitioners.
• Collaborates successfully with respiratory therapy, physical and occupational therapists, dieticians, and case management.
• Makes consults as appropriate.
