Work History

Graduate Laboratory Research Assistant

University of New Hampshire
09.2023 - Current
  • Conducted research surrounding culturing, maintenance, and microscopy of the PC12 cell line
  • Utilized reflectance confocal, stimulated emission depletion (STED) and immunofluorescent microscopy for PC12 differentiation analysis
  • Directed a separate independent research pathway for the laboratory
  • Managed inventory of laboratory supplies, including media preparation and preparation of both 3D collagen hydrogels and polyacrylamide gels
  • Provided mentorship and training for new laboratory research members

Education

Master of Science - Biotechnology: Industrial And Biomedical Sciences

University of New Hampshire
Manchester, NH

Bachelor of Science - Biomedical Sciences: Medical Laboratory Sciences

University of New Hampshire
Durham, NH
05.2024

Skills

  • Proficiency in culturing and maintenance of various cell lines
  • Microscopy technical experience with reflectance confocal, brightfield, and fluorescent microscopes
  • Immunofluorescent staining and immunofluorescent microscopy experience
  • Expertise in both collagen gel and polyacrylamide formation
  • Proficiency in lab techniques such as flow cytometry, viability and cytotoxicity assays, and Resazurin assays
  • Hazardous waste disposal and chemical handling
  • Scientific writing experience

Projects

Differentiation of PC12 and NIH/3T3.2 Adherent Cell Lines in 3D Collagen Hydrogels:

  • Prepared successful and adherent 3D collagen hydrogels that contained fluorescent polystyrene microbeads
  • Seeded and cultured both PC12 and NIH/3T3.2 cell lines in the 3D collagen hydrogels
  • Visualized the 3D collagen hydrogel samples in both reflectance confocal and STED microscopy

PC12 and NIH/3T3.2 Cells on Polyacrylamide Gels to Measure Traction Force Microscopy (TFM):

  • Formulated polyacrylamide gels coated with either laminin or collagen-I and seeded both NIH/3T3.2 and PC12 cells on the polyacrylamide gels
  • Analyzed the preliminary TFM approach through confocal microscopy

Prolonged Exposure of Pure Caffeine on Resulting PC12 Neurogenic Characteristics:

  • Managed an individual study of the effects of prolonged caffeine exposure on PC12 neurogenic characteristics
  • Treated PC12 cells in chamber slides with pure caffeine, nerve growth factor, or a combination of the two for one week
  • Immunostained the PC12 cells with the monoclonal antibodies beta-3 tubulin and nestin and counterstained with actin red and DAPI
  • Visualized the PC12 cells with immunofluorescent microscopy
