Cashier abilities including opening and closing the cash drawers , working the computer system, assisting customers, making deliveries through the computer, making change as needed with our accounts receivable staff, answering the phones, making orders over the phone or getting back to customers on special requests, etc.
Ordering store materials: I worked closely with Greenstreets wholesale department to create house orders for vegetables, herbs, houseplants, and annuals. That included traveling down the farm to do walk throughs with growing staff to build the best list for the stores needs. They also would continuously give me insight on new products and their special care guides, growing guides, and common pests to be aware of.
Working sales out in the field ensuring customers got the best materials, plants, and products to meet their needs based on accurate knowledge through experience. With my experience, I constantly asked questions to the owner and head manager (who had both been in a horticultural schooling, workforce, etc for over 40 years) to learn what was needed to execute proper sales. They helped teach me everything I know today about the best plants for locations around the home, materials needed to grow, and special care guides for all department of plants (including annuals, perennials, edibles, indoor, trees, evergreens, etc.)
Loading abilities including offloading multiple trucks a day during busy seasons, loading mulch and soil into customer vehicles, lifting heavy tables and furniture, and using pallet jacks.
Management skills for our team. Using a lead by example method to guide staff, train staff, and ensure a safe, productive, and positive environment.
Other duties I performed on a daily basis were watering each season, greenhouse maintenance (cleaning water filters, making fertilizer to push through our water system, cleaning floors, drains, tables, registers, and other maintenance requirements for safety and properly running equipment). As well, I continuously made sure the environment was clean and safe for everyone. Took inventory of specific departments like outdoor amendments, gift shop, as well of daily needs like bathroom supplies, store bags, office supplies, tools, all of the above.
Lastly, I worked in every seasons condition. I worked spring and summer seasons unloading trucks, moving heavy plants, watering daily and being on my feet constantly through the heat. I worked our fall festival on weekends, field trips on weekends either at the retail store or in our festival grounds, as well as night events. I also worked each winter season, the slow season, preparing the greenhouse with lots of cleaning, organizing, and building for our upcoming spring season.
