For my Eagle Scout project, I designed and built 34 backpack racks for my local elementary school that I attended as a young kid. I used 6" x 12' wood boards that I hand painted white before attaching multiple backpack hooks to them. I then took all the boards and attached them to the walls of the school outside each classroom. In total, I had 70+ hours of service with close to 15 other people who helped contribute to the project in various ways. I was able to reach out to nearby businesses and asked for donations for materials to help assist in the project. I wrote out a personal letter to each business asking for specific items that would be useful in my project. By doing this I received material donations as well as monetary donations that helped me purchase the wood, paint and backpack hooks that I needed. This experience not only allowed me to give back to my former school, but it also helped me develop valuable skills in leadership, communication, and project management.
