I was in charge of keeping things orderly with the valets at a local hospital. That included strong customer service skills, having to deal with upset people or more at times. I would watch to see what keys the drivers would take and making sure it is documented on the computer correctly. Answering the phone and interacting with different parts of the hospital was a big part of the position. I also spoke with customers that arrived at the valet booth asking for assistance. When tips were brought in by the valets, I distributed them accordingly to our system. This was a sitting job, being in that position most of an eight-hour shift.
This was a face-to-face job in which customer service was key. My role, along with others, was to engage with customers and present merchandise to them based on what they were looking for. We needed to be knowledgeable in where certain items were located in the store and to keep in mind price points. Some days were busier than others, so being able to stand for long periods of time were key, and being able to work two long shifts a week were also required.
My main job was working on the computer and interacting with customers over the phone. I dealt with their complaints, set up or cancelled subscriptions, or assisted with other issues they would have. I would work with an online POS system when setting up subscriptions and needed to have general knowledge of standard computer operating systems.
This job required a lot of patience and physical work at times. I worked directly with young adults who had developmental disabilities, mainly autism and Aspergers. We would assist and help, when necessary, with daily activities such as cooking, bathing, getting dressed, and more. This would help the clients when they were ready to graduate school and the program before moving on to their next chapter which would include more independence. We were required to be certified in CPR and would need to attend safety courses when dealing with physical clients.
