Manage a very busy school health office, attending to physical and behavioral health needs of students. • Review student medical records, communicate with parents to gather student health history & write special education assessments. Assess student health needs, identify students with health conditions & develop comprehensive care plans/Emergency Care Plans. Identify student/family needs, coordinate referrals to appropriate resources. Manage health emergencies, effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously. • Communicate effectively with students, families and staff verbally and in writing. • Act as a resource for other school health staff. • Obtain physician orders, administer medications & g-tube feedings. • Assist diabetic students with blood glucose monitoring and insulin injections. • Educate students and staff on how to manage health conditions & emergencies. • Perform student vision and hearing screenings. • Collaborate with Special Education teams. • Complete third party billing for eligible services.
Provided direct patient care to pediatric medical/surgical patients in multiple specialty services, including Hematology/Oncology, Solid Organ and Bone Marrow Transplant, Renal, GI, ENT, Trauma, Neurosurgery and General Pediatrics. Responsibilities included: • Administer IV therapy including medications, chemotherapy, TPN/IL, and blood products. • Administer peritoneal dialysis. • Administer G-tube feedings and medications. • Maintain central lines/drains/airways. • Provide post-op care to surgical patients ages infant - adult. • Perform regular assessments of patients. Recognize signs and symptoms of impending medical emergencies. Intervene quickly and efficiently in case of actual emergency. • Communicate effectively with patients and families, other members of the health care team, and management. Complete and accurate documentation of all cares provided. • Work intermittently as charge nurse, overseeing 23 bed unit. Act as a resource/mentor for less experienced staff. Resolve conflicts as they arise. • Work effectively both independently and with others.
