Middletown Eduational Collaborative Teacher of the Year 2014

MEC was a collaborative of families and teachers developed by parents ot help foster cultural activities in the classroom. Each year, families and students nominated teachers who exemplified a dedication to students above and beyond the classroom setting and daily curriculum. I received this honor as a result of my creation and implementation of an after school program for our lower income students at their housing complex.  I created a home-like space and recruited volunteers to help feed and work on homework with upwards of 35 students ages 10-14.  This program ran three days per week after school for three years.  All help was volunteer and all food, school supplies, space furniture and decorations were either donated or purchased by myself with the help of a GoFundMe and community donations.
