- During my time at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, I had the opportunity to shadow a distinguished plastic surgeon, where I observed a variety of intricate surgical procedures, including a complete abdominoplasty, reduction mammoplasty, and tendon repair surgery. This experience provided me with valuable insights into the surgical field, including the complexities of each procedure and the meticulous nature of surgical practice. I gained hands-on knowledge of essential surgical instruments and operating room supplies, learning about their specific uses and importance in ensuring successful outcomes. Observing the surgical team in action also deepened my understanding of preoperative and postoperative care, as well as the coordination required among team members during complex surgeries.

Shadowing Pathologists
- At the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, I shadowed pathologists and observed their critical role in diagnosing diseases through microscopic examination of tissue samples. I witnessed procedures involving the examination of placentas, umbilical cords, and various limb tissues, gaining insight into the diagnostic process for various types of cancers and other conditions. This experience allowed me to learn about basic staining techniques, tissue preservation methods, and the meticulous nature of pathological examination. I developed an appreciation for the detailed work involved in preparing and analyzing tissue samples, and the importance of accurate diagnosis in patient care.

Shadowing Forensic Pathologists
- During my shadowing experience at the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, I observed numerous postmortem examinations, which provided me with a comprehensive understanding of autopsy procedures and forensic pathology. I became familiar with laboratory supplies, departmental safety guidelines, and the protocols involved in conducting thorough autopsies. I observed the identification of bullet and stab wounds, the draining of bodies for fluid testing, and the collection of tissue samples for further analysis. This experience included learning about the step-by-step protocol for sharing autopsy cases with other pathologists, enhancing my understanding of collaborative forensic investigations and the critical role of accuracy in forensic analysis.
