SHE BUILT THIS CITY, Pre-Apprenticeship Program, 04/01/23, 06/30/23, Eight-week program which includes technical and career readiness training. Four core skilled trades pathways are learned: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting. Essential skills training that included: effective communication, conflict resolution, and emotional intelligence. Construction Mathematics – fractions, subtraction, applied math concepts, area & perimeter, and cost calculations. Tool identification, use and maintenance: tape measure, miter saw, hammer & nails, sander, impact, drill, screwdriver, channel locks, socket wrench, and electrical testers. Construction Safety – PPE equipment and worksite safety. Commercial Painting – priming/prepping, painting/staining, testing/repairing, and knowledge of different sheens. Plumbing – knowledge of how water travels and toilet repair. Electrical – understanding of electricity, outlets and switches, and adhering wires and circuit activity. Carpentry – reading plans and cutting reminders.
