Summary

At St Johns International School, Waterloo BE

I taught grade 5 elementary and grade 3-5 drama club (after school program) 1988-2003

I taught Middle School grades 6/7

ENG/DRAMA 2003-2017

My philosophy for being an effective teacher includes:

-there is no substitute for having a well planned lesson going into your classroom

-the idea that my students will be about as enthusiastic as I am about what we're doing: bring a positive energy to the lessons!

-Praise is a powerful tool for helping my students believe in themselves and succeed in accomplishing their learning goals

-"benevolent monarchy" is an appropriate description of my classroom management style

-being a "guide on side" rather than "sage on stage" helps to keep instructional technique INTERACIVE

-students must always be presented the justifiable "end goal" of whatever I am asking them to do

-the "teachable moment" for each student during the school day is a real thing
