Work History
Library/ ILL Technician
US Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Boulder, USA
09.2005 - Current
Duties:
While following written documentation and oral instructions for various operating policies and guidelines within a coordinated team/group setting, administrative tasks, such as assisting with paperwork for the purposes of training, travel, or supplies replenishment were completed as needed
2) Assistance at the Circulation Desk—with mindful patron interface—while keeping Library policy in the forefront and keeping statistics on the use of the library's general functions were performed as needed
Help to customers is provided with quick information and/ or request fulfillment through use of OCLC Worldshare Management resources (WMS) and by adhering to Boulder Labs Library circulation procedure(s)
3) Lending and borrowing- both queue(s) are reviewed for requests via Illiad in order to process all incoming Interlibrary Loan requests
Circulation/Front desk duties that I am in charge of: charging and discharging materials, renewing items and placing holds, and also troubleshooting problems such as overdue or lost materials by using OCLC Worldshare (WMS)
Patrons are given assistance on how to search the Public Access Catalog if needed, to research BLL-owned subjects, titles, and authors
Off-campus holdings at other libraries that are in very close proximity to the Boulder Labs Campus are also searched if patrons are in a hurry to get a certain item (University of Colorado/Chinook.) For some resources we are not a patron's 'home library' and contact information is given to attain different e-holdings than we currently possess
Physical holdings that are mistaken for 'ours' can still be retrieved through all auspices of Interlibrary Loan process - and many times quite quickly
Items are located via OCLC/WMS and circulated (via Illiad) for Lending - processing local physical holdings for other libraries from local shelves -while keeping in touch with borrowers about due date expectations, limits on renewals, and guidance on how to replace lost items
Some modifications, when needed can be done through Illiad - such as processing renewals
Other times person-to person contact is needed with Interlibrary Loan Departments from other libraries
(For instance: other libraries are contacted when we have lost track of an item through failure to update an item as 'shipped.' A verbal reminder helps keep track of our items when they are already with the borrower, ensuring a more likely return of our holdings in a timely way.)
Searching citation indexes such as Web of Science (WOS), databases such as Google Scholar, digital repositories such as HathiTrust or abstract indexes like Chem Abs (Chemical Abstracts) to correct incomplete citations are done for Borrowing requests daily, so that other libraries may respond with a quick fulfillment turnaround.
Requests containing bibliographic data that is incorrect -or missing valuable information like: author, title, pages, years, or format (whether it is a conference proceeding, serial publication, monograph, book, journal, or technical report) is corrected by contacting the patron.
Verification of bibliographic to guarantee fulfillment from other lending institutions
Returnable materials from lending institutions are checked-in and returned to the proper lender in a timely fashion via USPS, the Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC), or in the rare case, via UPS or Fed Ex
Processed and delivered articles and book chapters electronically or in person under copyright compliance.
Uploaded and transmitted electronic deliveries through Illiad as per requirements.
Supported multiple weeding projects while confirming relevant holdings through Serials and Monograph reviews.
Ongoing communications with various team members at CLiC/ local courier was essential to maintain continued access to additional load-bearing service(s), daily container drop offs, and coordinated arrival times
Conducted thorough and consistent follow-ups with all lenders and borrowers during the 2020-2022 onsite closure to locate missing items.
Trained nearly 100 attendees on digitizing documents using dual-version KIC Bookeye scanners.
Monitored ILL requests in Illiad consistently across all queues to ensure timely response to patron inquiries.
