Lauri McCain

I began my career at Atascadero State Hospital working as a Registered Nurse on a hearing impaired unit with men who have a mental illness from a correctional institution. In that role I developed nursing care plans, assisted the Physicians with sick call, wrote extensive monthly notes, worked with all members of the team to develop effective treatment plans for each individual. I then moved to a nursing management position in the Nursing Office of the Day. In that role I was the liaison between level of care staff and physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, pharmacists and the dental professionals. I dispensed medications from our office, assisted staff with a myriad of queries including direct nursing care, medication administration, policies and procedures and documentation concerns. I retired from that position after 20 years and am now actively seeking a role in the healthcare system so that I can utilize my skills and expand my skill set as well.

• As my role as Nurse Manager of a busy and challenging Telemetry Unit I assisted RN’s and CNA’s in completing their clinical assignments in a timely manner assuring accuracy, safety and above all, expert care for our patients considering privacy and respect. I also assisted in Case Management and supervising the house, taking direct admissions from Physicians, first response to all medical emergencies, and being a supportive presence for all staff and patients. I was motivated to challenge myself into a new role as a psychiatric nurse in a new venue. I gained valuable experience in my years as an acute care nurse and knew that my skills would made me an ideal candidate in a new role
