Administered eye exams, skills tests, written tests to new drivers. Renewed license for current drivers. Gave CDL pre-trip and road test for truck drivers. Issued medical reports to drivers with medical issues that might impair their driving and cause danger to themselves or other drivers on the road. Issued ID cards to non-drivers. Gave skills tests to motorcyclist. People that didn't speak English would bring in interpreters, and I would give them an oral exam. However, when it came time for the skills (road) test, only myself and the person wanting the license went on the test. They had to understand my hand signals, for left and right turn, reverse and stop. I was badly injured on a road test in 1995, when I was giving a Hispanic lady a skills test. When she went to put the car in reverse, she panicked and "floored" the gas pedal, causing a terrible accident. My back was injured, broke right leg, and had a concussion. After a short time, I returned to work, and was also going to therapy. Our job required us to give CDL road tests. We had to meet a quota, to remain certified. Because of my injury, I couldn't climb up into the trucks. I was then offered disability. I didn't want to go out at age 42, but had no choice.

When I was working through this Temporary Service, I did several different jobs. I worked as a receptionist at Surry Temporary Services, also at Proctor Silex. I bagged socks at Kentucky Derby Hosiery. I cleaned houses on work sites that where homes were being built/renovated. When I worked as a receptionist, I answered the phone, filed, ran errands, did background checks on potential employees, etc. I was also responsible for paying invoices on time.

• I worked in the Retail Banking Dept. when I was first hired. Our department was responsible for keeping the files for new auto loans. My job was to ensure that each client had valid Insurance Policies in their file. As the Policies came in, I would file them. These were for the entire state, not just Winston-Salem.
• Worked closely with Credit Bureaus on a daily basis when they would call our department to get a report on a client. We had the access to that on the computer. I also worked with our Collections Dept. when I got notice that a client let their Insurance lapse, and had no coverage on the vehicle that our bank is financing. I later transferred to the Telecommunications Division because it was more money. In that department, I often worked the "Switchboard" where hundreds of calls came in on a daily basis to me and one more operator. My main responsibility was to pay the telephone bills for every dept. in Wachovia Bank. It wasn't just a phone bill, it was a bill that covered anything electronic that would fall under the category "phone." Such as computers, modems, printers, etc. It was always a challenge to meet the deadline every month. That's what I loved about it. I got married in June of 1987, and shortly after my husband started cheating on me. It really did a number on me. Long story short, I had to be admitted into the hospital for depression. During that time, I exhausted my sick leave, and was terminated. I was at Wachovia long enough to be vested.
