Legal Review and Reform

• Legal analysis of countries' birth and death registration and related laws to identify gaps to a well-functioning and integrated civil registration and vital statistics system and recommend how relevant legal instruments can be reformed, amended or created anew to better align with international best practices.
• Develop resources and conduct training for in-country lawyers on international best practices for civil registration, vital statistics, and identity management (CRVSID) systems.
• Work with and assist in-country lawyers and government stakeholders in identifying areas of priority for legal reform and taking the reform process forward accordingly, including by providing legislative drafting assistance.

Budget Advocacy

• Support the development of the Budget Advocacy Toolkit and Framework for CRVSID Funding Sustainability to be used with local partners to plan and implement CRVSID budget sustainability efforts.
• Support the pilot-testing of the Budget Advocacy Toolkit and Framework, which tested and determined the refinements and additions to the content.
• Conduct research and develop materials, resources and presentations for work related to the Data for Health Program and the Budget Sustainability project specifically.

Capacity Strengthening

• Support the implementation and revision of the Legal and Regulatory Review Toolkit for CRVSID
• Facilitated workshops and meetings with lead government agencies, relevant stakeholders, and implementing partners of the Data for Health Initiative
• Support civil society organization (CSO) grantees' capacity in policy analysis and development, campaign planning and monitoring, conducting research for advocacy, engaging and coordinating with partners, and mapping the policymaking process.

Program Management and Support

• Report, communicate, and highlight the Data for Health program’s successes and milestones through blog posts, tweets, and messages on other media outlets
• Preparing, formatting, and proofreading materials on all technical areas of the Data for Health Program
• Coordinate with funders, partner organizations, stakeholders, and consultants to ensure the success of the shared goals of the Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Data for Health Initiative
• Manage workflow with global and in-country consultants to ensure progress and timely completion of projects.

• Initiated the Data for Health Program's expansion to support civil society organizations (CSOs) to create political will through comprehensive locally-led advocacy campaigns that push law reform and increased budgets to the finish line.
• Managed budget advocacy projects and supported the development and operationalization of CRVSID advocacy strategies.
• Supervised in-country coordinators and their performance to ensure deliverables were met and modified work plans as needed.

• Provided legal research assistance to the lead consultant in conducting a legislative assessment of national legal frameworks for International Health Regulations (IHR2005) implementation in Ethiopia
• Reviewed and analyzed laws across sectors to identify and understand gaps in managing public health emergencies in Ethiopia
• Reviewed existing public health laws, and provided legislative directions for the development of a new and comprehensive national public health legislation.

• Helped with the review of existing policies, laws, and regulations in the development of the Water Supply and Sanitation Regulatory Framework
• Helped with the development of regulatory performance standards, incentives, and penalty schemes utilities
• Helped outline potential roadmaps for the establishment of Water and Sanitation service providers’ regulatory scheme in Ethiopia
• Assisted with the legal research and analysis in the development of FHAPCO’s new legislative and institutional frameworks to operationalize Domestic Resource Mobilization and Sustainability Strategy and the new strategic plan frameworks
• Assisted the lead consultant with the review and identification of areas requiring legislative support under FHAPCO’s revised HIV policy, five-year strategic plan, and other policy and institutional frameworks
• Assisted the lead consultant with the review of FHAPCO’s initial draft proclamation to incorporate all the required legal issues/recommendations from the HIV DRMS and other frameworks.

• Supported the Institute's programmatic work and cutting-edge scholarship on pressing national and global health issues, including Universal Health Coverage, health and human rights, pandemic responses, and health equity
• Focusing on East and Southern African countries, supported a research project on the human rights effects of legal and policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic
• As a Teaching Assistant, I supported the Global Health Law and O'Neill Institute Colloquium academic classes in the 2019-2020 Global Health Law LLM Program
• Provided research and writing assistance in developing and drafting publications, reports, blogs, and various writings
• Spearheaded the Global Health and Human Rights Database's continued development with health and human rights laws and judgments from around the world
• Collaborated with experts working for partner organizations on national and global health law and policy projects and events.

• Conducted legal research for the Addiction and Public Policy Initiative on State statutes and case laws on parental use of controlled substances and children removal in the United States
• Helped in editing the final report by the Lancet-O'Neill Commission on the Legal Determinants of Health
• Summarized judgments for the Global Health and Human Rights Database from several jurisdictions, Regional and International Human Rights Courts
• Annotated bibliography research for the Health Equity Programs of Action Guide.

• Brought and defended Administrative, Disciplinary, Civil, and Criminal suits involving food and drug products and healthcare practitioners or/and facilities
• Co-drafted regulatory laws and worked on enforcement programs
• Co-drafted national policy and strategy documents and laws on Ethiopian Traditional Medicine
• Worked as the Secretariat of the Federal Health Professionals Ethics Committee with adjudication power over medical malpractice complaints
• Coordinated experience-sharing forums that helped in establishing Regional Medical Ethics Committees for five Regional States
• Trained health professionals on medical ethics, professional liability, and medicolegal issues
• Coordinated discussion forums with justice organs to bridge gaps in law enforcement related to medical malpractice adjudication.
