  • During an 8 week period, I went down to the horse barn twice a week and practice with my animal an hour for each session. I was able to understand my animals personality and patience when further on into my practice my horse did not want to listen anymore. This experience has helped me to work hands on and to work with a species I don't work with as often as other livestock here on Uconn campus

Kennel Attendant/Veterinary Assistant

  • I started off working as the Kennel Attendant for the night, stocking the rooms and surgery floor with towels and paper towels, doing laundry and cleaning cages, walking dogs and then vacuuming and mopping once every one leaves and close the office. I helped train incoming kennel attendant before leaving for college. During my Summer and Winter breaks I have been able to shadow rooms with the vet tech to learn what goes on during exams appointments, after learning what needs to be done I have been able to multitask throughout the day, and help whenever it is needed, As a vet assistant now I help with negative blood work and fecal phone calls, cleaning rooms after appointments, stocking rooms with what the doctor and techs need for appointments and working with others to help put in charges or starting appointment histories when behind schedule and restraining for tech appointments, also communication is key when working with the staff and patients/owners of the animal to help ensure a clear idea of what needs to be done and how we can help when they are concerned.
