I have been taking care of others since I could remember, and it is a skill that has long since been ingrained in me. As the eldest child, I helped to take care of my three younger siblings, including taking care of my youngest brother who was born multiple handicap. Since a young age I knew that I wanted to be in the medical field, but I think that seeing my brother not being able to speak and make decisions for himself took me into the direction of Nursing, I wanted to be that person that could advocate for patients specially those that for which ever reason were not able to.
As a Registered Nurse, I worked as an ICU nurse right out of Nursing School in 2004. I was responsible for taking care of patients that needed mostly one on one care, on ventilators, medication drips, and technical proficiency in various medical procedures, in which accuracy and adherent to best practices for patient, safety and positive outcomes.
As an Informatics Nurse, assisting and supporting work in operations with project managers, analysts, and department leaders, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating effective informatics solutions and technologies within the clinical, administrative, educational, and research domain of practice. Advocating, developing policies, and identifying issues, and challenges. While working as an Informatic nurse, I was also working in the ER to keep up my bedside skills with patients. It was after working for Informatics that I decided to go back to school for a Masters in Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, and Gerontology certified. I have been working now for 10 years as a Nurse Practitioner in multiple areas of Nursing since then.
