Accomplished RN TeleICU from BJC. I have recently retired after a 45 year nursing career at BJC. The last 7 years I worked in a remote ICU setting where I monitored 30 to 40 patients including assisting the bedside teams remotely. The eICU was very helpful in assisting with the stabilization of patients in our community hospitals during Covid. We assisted with triaging the sickest patients to higher levels of care. My previous 4 decades prepared me. I have worked in a teaching hospital and it was a perfect place to learn. I enjoyed multidisciplinary rounds. I developed my critical thinking skills. I have my CCRN. I believe the continuing education needed to maintain my CCRN helped me to be a very successful critical care nurse. I started working at BJH in 1979 and spent years making rounds on 7300 orthopedic division. I transferred to the MICU/RICU where my love for critical care began. I also worked in Home Health which touched my heart and gave me a view into the challenges of health care and the importance of the continuum of care. I managed the Endoscopy unit. I did travel nursing and worked med/surg. at New Hanover Memorial Hospital. My heart kept calling me back to Barnes where I started my career. My passion to become a nurse started after a serious automobile crash when I was 19yo. I was airlifted to Barnes. During the long course of my recovery I knew that one day I wanted to work with a team who saved peoples’ lives. I did accomplish that dream. I worked for over 30yrs. In the Surgical Burn Trauma ICU. I have touched touched patients and families at the most difficult times and made a positive impact. I was a preceptor for many new ICU nurses, worked as a charge nurse and impacted physicians who trained there. I am proud that I brought kindness and compassion to my practice. I was told by my manager that I left an indelible impression and that meant a lot to me. I have much more to share.
