Work History

HPMS Manager

Alaska Dept. of Transportation & Public Facilities
12.2019 - Current
  • Responsible for managing the Department's Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) annual submittal for interstate, non-interstate pavement, roadway inventory data, Certified Public Road Miles, traffic and travel time metric data.
  • I work with a team of professionals in our pavement, GIS and Traffic data sections to assemble, quality check and analyze approximately 70 data items.
  • Manage the statewide functional classification update project conducted every 10 years after the census. This includes reviewing over 17,000 miles of public roads. Public outreach and transparency including formal tribal consultations are a major component of this project.
  • Manage the update of the census boundaries and adjust them for transportation purposes.
  • Manage the funding for these federal programs in our Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP), obligating the funding, and managing the budget and expenditures.
  • Manage contracts which help us with maintaining our internal HPMS software and with updating the functional classification of all public roads in the state.

ITS Coordinator

Alaska Dept. of Transportation & Public Facilities
Juneau, AK
04.2009 - 12.2019
  • I was responsible for managing the State’s Traveler Information System, 511, and the State’s Road Weather Information System (RWIS) which comprised of over 70 remote weather stations and cameras along our states highways.
  • The data and images are displayed on several DOT hosted websites, 511.alaska.gov and roadweather.alaska.gov
  • Worked in partnership with state, local and federal agencies such as NOAA, Chugach National Forest, and local avalanche prevention groups to share weather sensor data and camera images. I also helped the department build a relationship with the National Weather Service in communicating joint messaging to the public in preparation for inclement weather.
  • Worked with our maintenance and operations (M&O) staff for reporting driving conditions to the public. I worked with our vendor to build and implement an easy to use mobile app that M&O could use in their vehicles to safely update road conditions.
  • Past board member on Intelligent Transportation Society of Alaska (ITS Alaska)

Human Services Transportation Planner (Non-perm position)

Alaska Dept. of Transportation & Public Facilities
01.2006 - 06.2007
  • I worked in the State Transit Office assisting the State with launching a new federal program for human service transportation coordination. This transit program was created for improving transportation access for elderly, special needs and the disabled.
  • I helped acquire a free COTS grant software for community transportation funds (acquired from Colorado DOT) and worked with a vendor to customize it for Alaska.
  • This was a non-permanent position in which the funding ended in June 2007.
  • For the next year and a half, I operated a home daycare so I could stay home with my small children before going back to work full-time in 2009.
