Lucas Goode

While working with the union, I started Goode Concrete LLC. A company specializing in decorative concrete. After a year of 2 jobs, I had enough business to transition to a full-time small business owner. For the majority of the time ran two 4-man crews consistently. Throughout this venture, I learned the entire business side of the construction industry, such as payroll, accounting, hiring, firing, estimating, bidding, invoicing, advertising, etc. I have had many projects over the years, big and small. A lot of back yard living areas, over 100 pools with Banks Pools and Aqua Blue Design, also a handful of commercial projects, including Price Chopper remodels and parking lots, many barndominiums, new home construction, and large-scale commercial buildings.

I started out at George Shaw as a concrete finisher and quickly moved up to lead finisher, then general foreman. George Shaw was a commercial union company that specialized in large projects. In my 9 years, I was a part of building many schools, hospitals, commercial developments, and more. some of the many projects, including many buildings at the legends. From the Cerner campus to Hollywood Casino to Schlitterbahn water park, we were there from excavation through the public sidewalk tie-ins. We also had the contract for Prairie Fire, including all parking garages, dinosaur museum, and movie theatre. We built them all. Other projects included the KU Art Cen, Arrowhead Stadium renovation, Facebook data center in Attoona, Iowa, Garmen, The Windseeker( 301ft tall swing at worlds of fun). During most of these projects as a lead forman I was in direct meetings with excavator's, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, pipefitters and so on and so forth.

During my employment with George Shaw I received a phone call and the opportunity to be a part of the emissions upgrade project at Lacygne Power Plant as the concrete forman for one of the largest construction companies in the world, Keiwit construction. I was in charge of over 45 people at one point. My job requirements there were to lead the safety meeting with my team as well as a 15-minute stretch every morning followed by an hour foreman's meeting with all union forman, including excavators, plumbers, electricians, mechanical, scaffold, carpenters, pipefitters, boilermakers, laborers, safety, KCPL, OSHA, superintendents, project managers, and a handful of specialized companies from allover the united stated and some outside of the country. The rest of the day was overseeing progress and logging reports for the following day.

Freedom Concrete was a heavy highway union company that specialized in curb and gutter/sidewalks and ADA ramps. Throughout my three years at Freedom, I have worked alongside excavators, developers, and drainage contractors to build many roads, parking lots, and housing developments throughout the Kansas City area.
