As the orthopaedic service coordinator, I am directly responsible for all aspects of the orthopaedic service. This includes ensuring all necessary instruments and implants are available for upcoming surgical procedures, serving as the liason between orthopaedic surgeons as well as vendors and the department, and orthopaedic room staffing to meet the needs of the surgeon and surgical procedure. I am also responsible for recognizing the need for and requesting new equipment, instruments, and the use of new implants/technology to fulfill the needs of the department and as surgeon requests arise. I am also frequently tasked to serve as the circulating nurse or scrub nurse in one of the orthopaedic rooms as staffing needs dictate.

• As the operating room manager, I was responsible for day to day operations within the operating room and sterile processing. I served as the liaison between surgeons and vendors and the surgery center. I was also responsible for staff placement in surgical suites to fit the needs of the surgeon as well as surgical procedure. I also served as the circulating nurse as well as the scrub nurse cases as staffing needs dictated.

• As the nurse practitioner, I worked independently and alongside an experienced orthopaedic surgeon within the office setting as well as in surgery. I functioned as a practitioner treating patients in the office, assisted in orthopaedic surgery which included surgical closure, and made rounds on post-surgical as well as non-surgical patients while hospitalized. As the nurse practitioner, I was also responsible for fielding patient calls after hours as well as responding to patient calls during clinic hours. I served as the surgical liason between the patient and the surgical facility. This included evaluating each patient medically for the possible need for surgical clearance prior to surgery, necessary laboratory studies prior to surgery, and the possible need for discontinuing certain medications for a period of time before/after surgery as appropriate. I was solely responsible for educating patients and family members in the surgical process including any instructions prior to surgery in preparation for the procedure, arrival time, what to expect the day of surgery, and information necessary to promote a successful outcome for their procedure once they arrived home. I was responsible for instruction in care of their surgical incisions, when to resume any discontinued medications, use of any durable medical equipment that may have been applied during surgery, and precautions to avoid dislocation or damage to repaired joints/tissue. Furthermore, I was resposible for following up with these patients after surgery prior to their scheduled follow up office visit. These patients frequently attended physical therapy in our office at which point I often visited post surgical patients to answer any questions they might have and to evaluate surgical sites for healing progress and any possible impending complications such as surgical site infection and deep vein thrombosis. I served as the office administrator beginning 2008 which included coding, billing, payroll, surgical pre-certifications, employee management, insurance negotiations, accountant liason, and various other administrative duties.

• Worked in the surgical setting as a circulator as well as assisting and passing instruments on orthopaedic surgical cases. Also assisted in other various surgical cases; however, the vast majority of my experience is in orthopaedics.
