Work History

Certified Nursing Assistant

Pleasant Valley State Prison
01.2020 - 05.2021
  • Lead CNA for third watch
  • CNA for telemed consisted of me verifying inmate number and yard announcing the yard about to walk medical holding cell to patient room to make sure it was safe and there wasn't a different inmate from another yard passing to ensure safety of all staff and inmates. Lastly, verifying again inmate number and yard to announce before exiting patient room instructing them back to holding cell after teledoc session was over.
  • RN/DR line consisted of me instructing inmate from medical holding cell to patient room to be seen by RN or Dr. checking them in every time and ensuring I have the correct inmate by double checking inmate number. For RN/DR line I didn't have to announce Inmate and yard because it usually was done on their own yard unless RN/DR were conducting their line in TTA which sometimes did happen.
  • Instructing porters when we have a big mess after a trauma incident to where they need to clean
  • Answered call lights and supported patient comfort and safety by adjusting bed rails and equipment.
  • Checked patient vitals such as temperature, blood pressure.
  • Offered immediate assistance in emergency and routine paging situations to evaluate needs and deliver care.
  • Oversaw and maintained inmates' rooms, group living areas, and nurse stations for inmates on Suicide Watch. this usually would occur for inmates who needed to remain in observation but were given orders through metal health Dr. to have rec time, books, color crayons, or a shower. I needed to inspect anything we were giving to the inmate in his individual cell and make sure there wasn't anything that he could use for self harm. Also making sure other inmates passing by couldn't see him or identify him ensuring his privacy.
  • Delivered individualized patient care by recording vital signs, documenting observations, and evaluating patient needs.
  • Reduced risks of patient infection and cross-contamination by cleaning and sterilizing equipment.
  • Transported inmates between rooms and appointments or testing locations or TTA Triage and Treatment Area to SW Suicide Watch holding cell
  • As soon as an inmate was determined that he needed to be on SW I had to log into a laptop and start charting every 15 minutes.
  • I would alert my supervisor that we had a SW inmate give his inmate number and let them know the time we leave TTA and arrive to SW holding cell. This is considered a big event happening especially for count time because an inmate is being moved from one yard to another . We also need to let the watch commanding officer know so that he can give us the go ahead to move or to hold if they see fit. Even in an emergency corrections officers have to give us any ok to move an inmate from anywhere to ensure everyone's safety.
  • Observed inmates under suicide watch to help prevent further harm and charted any changes in behavior every 15 minutes until shift change or inmate was cleared.
  • When PVSP began administering Covid vaccines I was in charge of getting inmate info such as name, inmate number and dob for vaccination card or having them fill out a refusal to receive the vaccine. I also had to scribe the time each inmate received the vaccine and if they had any symptoms or fever during the waiting period after receiving the vaccine and instructing them when they can go back to their cell. When we had inmates who had a reaction to the vaccine i needed to alert our RN and Corrections officer so they can properly reassess the inmate and transfer to on site higher level of care for further observation.
  • Scribing during any trauma emergency coming into TTA from beginning to end. Noting the time alarm went off, time medical responded, time arrived back to TTA, everything that was done during the care received in TTA, time Ambulance got there including EMT name, and time they left TTA.
  • During any trauma for TTA its important to be hands on if need be and get medical necessities to ensure fast and proper care.
  • During Covid Pandemic I was in charge of being at main entrance and checking temperatures and alerting watch commander and SRN of any employee with symptoms or fever and noting the employee number and giving further instructions on how to get cleared.
  • I was given plenty of duties to do on my own during my time at PVSP since CTC was down I had to take new roles that were out of my CNA area but my SRN's trusted me to complete all my tasks and report back during the shift. Since its a Prison and anything can happen at any moment I always made sure safety first by ensuring I sent an email and a call to the SRN for my shift of what Yard I was on and when i was leaving that Yard as well. Especially since we would randomly get a SW inmate and they needed me ASAP to start charting for his watch.
